I finished Catching Fire yesterday. It was better than the first one.

My boss is in meetings this morning, and has a 1/2 personal day starting at 11. We're also missing a few kids. Easy, easy day.

This week is going slowly. So much so that I woke up thinking it was Thursday, and was disheartened to find it was only Wednesday. I broke the cracker off of my nylon 9' whip yesterday. I was going to replace it anyway, but I guess this just proves that it was overdue.

"The Church of Scientology went on trial this week in France, accused of fraud in a case that sheds light on the group."

Come on. Let's see my friends' best Scientology-related LJ-icons!

So, I got into the car this morning to head to work, trying really, really hard to get out of Game Brain. What did my iPod decide to shuffle into the queue? Every fricking song I have that reminds me of Changeling

1. Seize the Day (Avenged Sevenfold)
2. It's Your Life (Milla Jovovich)
3. Boomdeyada ("I love the whole world, and all its craziness")
4. Unwritten (Natasha Bedingfield)
5. Black Betty (for those of you who were at Lake Compounce, you know why)
6. Before I Forget (Slipknot)
7. Devil's Dancefloor (Flogging Molly)
8. Fellowship of the Ring Theme (Enya)
9. Fairies (Tangerine Dream, from "Legend")

And that was just on my way to work!!

I'm off to my piano lesson. The workshop sucked. Wish I were back home already. I've got a sore throat, maybe he'll let me leave early.

EDIT: Apparently my class was canceled, and I was not informed. No call, no Email, nothing. I showed up to find 2 locked doors (to the practice room and my professor's office next door to it). Grabbed some Kung Food, hung with the Bean, going to read a bedtime story and then gods know what. No work tomorrow. W00t!

I am:
Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs)
A quiet and underrated master of "hard science" fiction who, among other things, foresaw integrated circuits back in the 1940s.

Which science fiction writer are you?

I haven't read anything by him. I think I'll start.

Can anyone find me a place to download (even if I have to pay-- but I don't use Napster or Limewire) a song that I can't seem to find??

It's called The 12th of September by Xavier Rudd (I think it was off of the album "To Let"). It's not on iTunes, Amazon, or 7 Digital. Meh.

So, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I want to see the new Underworld prequel that's coming out next month (Jan 23). Anyone else out there who didn't learn their lesson with #2 and wants to go with me? It's an "off" weekend, so I'm totally down for a drive (::looking at the southerners::)

For any of you who are fans of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin...

There is a company that makes products for him. The products, by what I understand, are awesome. The company's business practices, however, are absolutely horrible.
I ordered a SoIaF calendar on October 8th (for JT, for XMas). I was told they would begin shipping the week after Thanksgiving. It's now December 19th, and I JUST got an Email from them (after contacting them a half dozen times to ask for an estimated ship date) saying that my calendar would be shipping today... and will arrive AFTER CHRISTMAS.

I'm not the only one who sent Emails into the void for the past month asking for an update. It's so bad that there is a FORUM started by people in the same boat. The Dabel Bros. website still proclaims "The A Song of Ice and Fire 2009 Calendar will be available in December 2008, well in time for the holiday season." Mind you, Gill has asked me to celebrate Hannukah this year, but most of the western world will be celebrating their "holiday season" on December 25th-- NOT the 28th, as my shipping tracker says.

Seriously. If they were gonna be late in getting these things out, the pre-orders deserve a form letter explaining why. Instead, they were total dicks about not returning emails to ANYONE, and not updating their website to be truthful. IMO, the least they could do is expedite the shipping to get it here for the holidays.

(and for the record, this is a running theme with these guys, says the forum)

I started reading, "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow today. I'm nearly finished.

While his writing style isn't amazing, it's a solid read and it's really hard to put down. I'm not done with it yet, but shark-jumping notwithstanding, I think it's a great book.

This will make 3 books in the 2 1/2 weeks since school ended. I wish G.R.R.M would just have another burst of creative genius and finish Dance already. *sigh*

Don't wanna work tomorrow. Wanna stay home and read.
