Well, the Socratic Dinner went off better than I had expected.

A big "THANK YOU!" to everyone who came, and doubly so to the ones who helped me clean, cook, run last minute errands, or mediate when things started getting a little heated (good job, Froggy!). Beaucoup thank you to Dave, for offering up the use of his house.

I know that some of the folks there didn't care for each other, and I know that some of the folks there had 180 degree differences in opinion, but I that was the point. Everyone kept their mouths closed and their ears open long enough to understand how everyone else felt on the topics discussed. Considering we had 16 people discussing some pretty hot issues, I couldn't have asked for a better time.

I'm not looking to do another one until at least the end of February. It's tough to schedule something like this around the various LARP games in the area, so it's going to take some finagling. For the record, I'm looking to make the next one more of a "Plato's Potluck" than a "Socratic Shindig". I enjoy cooking/baking, but it was a pretty expensive venture, and brothahs be broke these days (thank you Matt!)

Again, thanks to the hoard that made it out to Enfield. I had a blast.

OK, all.

I've been wanting to schedule a Socratic Dinner for a long time now, and the only weekend I can see that is going to be free is this one upcoming (January 7th). I/we have D&D during the day, but nothing at night. How is everyone else's schedule?

It is my intention to discuss anything controversial that we can think of (politics, religion, etc.). That is, after all, the point. Get a bunch of intelligent folks together who do not know each other, or do not know each other well, and feed them yummy food and interesting debate material. It's all in good fun. The invite is also extended to people who are not on LJ (Ian, for example). If someone can offer a place to host, I can offer to cook. The whole, "No Guests" clause makes it tough to have a dinner party here, though. ;) If we can't find a place to host, I guess we would have to do it at a restaurant somewhere.
